GALVESTON MARATHON, HALF AND 5K WILL BE A LIVE IN PERSON EVENT FEBRUARY 21, 2021. SOCIAL DISTANCING IS REQUIRED PER THE PROTOCOLS BELOW. OUR NUMBERS WILL BE LIMITED SO SIGN UP SOON.

2021 GALVESTON MARATHON, ½ MARATHON AND 5K PLAN

We value our runner’s training and time. We also understand the gravity of this health situation and we thank you for your continued support at this time. To keep the optimal safety of our runners, we will be taking the following measures to ensure the health of all participants at this year’s race.

Stewart Beach will once again be the staging area for the start and finish.

PACKET PICKUP. Racers will pick up packets:  Friday, February 19th, 1:00 to  6:00PM @ ON THE RUN 2427 Bay Area Blvd, Houston, Texas 77058, 281-480-5388 and the day before the event at the race site.

Location: Stewart Beach, Saturday, February 20th from 1pm to 6pm

201 Seawall Blvd, Galveston TX

Walk up packet pick up. Masks covering nose and mouth required. 6 foot spacing of individuals at all times.

Social Distancing

• Race starting times have been changed to create a buffer between Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5k runners

• Runners in the Marathon and Half Marathon will be sent out in waves to keep with social distancing guidelines

• Signs will be placed throughout the finish area and at the starting lines reminding runners to maintain adequate social distancing

• Masks will be available at the finish line at the finish Tent

• Do not engage in traditional forms of physical contact (handshakes, high-fives, hugs, partner stretching) or close group pictures/selfies, unless from the same household. *Please be respectful of other people’s personal space and their reactions – if they seem uncomfortable, add more space between you if possible.

Sanitization

• The food at the finish line will be prepackaged for individual servings

• Hand sanitizers and hand wipes will be provided at all areas on race day and packet pickup

• Medals will be self-service at the finish, not put around the finisher’s neck

Stay Home if You Are Sick

• Please be mindful and stay home if you are symptomatic (having fever, cough, or shortness of breath) or have recently traveled to a high- risk country

• High-risk individuals should continue to follow stricter protocols and exercise all possible caution. Your safety is important to us.

• Runners are encouraged to not attend or switch to a virtual event if they’re experiencing any symptoms.

Staff and Volunteers

• Volunteers and staff will wear gloves and masks

• Volunteers will be actively cleaning equipment and high touch areas

• Volunteers will be keeping track of the number of people gathered at the finish area to ensure proper social distancing measures are followed

You are allowed to pick-up packets for other participants.

*NO packet pickup / registration will be allowed on race morning.

- Participants must register online in advance. Paper registration will be offered only at one of the packet pickups. No race day registration will be available for any reason.

RACE START

- All racers are required to wear masks until the race starts.

- Wave start of 40 runners going off every 2 minutes.

- 5k will start following the last wave of marathon/half marathon runners, also in 40 runner waves.

- Participants should line up on the designated markings (6 feet apart) no earlier than 2 minutes before their designated time.

- Participants will not be allowed to congregate or conduct any race preparation (warm-ups, stretching, adjusting or changing apparel, etc.) in the starting area. You should approach the starting line ready to run.

- Participants must remain socially distant from one another at the start line. Please line up on the markings provided.

- Participants will cross timing equipment at the start line. Once you cross the timing equipment, your time will start.

ON COURSE

RACE AID STATIONS

- Participants should carry personal hydration (bottles/packs) and minimal water stations water stations will be provided while maintaining social distance guidelines.

- Bottled waters will at each aid station.

- Except for passing, participants should always remain on the far side of the course. Participants passing one another on the course must adhere to “no drafting” rules which include being no closer than 6 feet behind or in front of, or 6 feet beside other competitors at any time. Participants may pass only when there are not any oncoming runners approaching from the opposite direction. Before passing, participants must be sure they can safely remain 6 feet behind and then 6 feet in front of the participant being overtaken before merging back to the side of the pathway.

RACE FINISH

- After finishing, racers are required to wear a mask. Masks will be provided if you do not have one.

- Medals will be self-serve, not handed out.

- Bottled water will be available at the finish.

- Upon completing their run and crossing the finish line, participants must continue moving towards the exit of the finish area. Participants will be required to leave the finish line area and proceed immediately to their vehicle or home as soon as they complete their race. No congregating of any type will be permitted before, during, or after the event.

- There will not be a finish line celebration, nor an awards ceremony

POST RACE

- Post-race food will be prepackaged in zip lock bags to be picked up.

- Please no group congregating, as to promote social distancing.

- See the sights of the Island.

RESULTS/AWARDS

Awards will be available for pickup at the awards tent when the results are all in for that event. It will be announced when awards are ready to be picked up.

- Results will not be posted on site but will be posted online as soon as possible.

- Participants results can be checked by scanning your QR code on your race bib.

-Awards will be for half and full marathon only. No awards for the 5K
